Crawley boss John Gregory has challenged Matt Harrold to convince him he does not need to sign another striker.

Gregory indicated he was keen to bring in a goalscorer following the 2-0 defeat at Preston last weekend but has put the search on hold temporarily while he assesses the options he already has at the club.

Harrold has only started one league game – the 4-0 defeat to Rochdale – since his summer arrival from Bristol Rovers after undergoing knee surgery during pre-season but Gregory has hinted he will get another opportunity against his former club Yeovil today.

But with Reds boasting the worst strike rate in League One – four goals in nine games – Gregory admits he cannot wait too long before taking action.

Gregory said: “We’re looking at the situation but I’ve got three strikers in house already who I will give first opportunity to. If that doesn’t work I might have to look further afield but Matt is desperate to get on the field and he deserves a chance.

“He has been unfortunate since he came to us as he had a bad injury in pre-season which held him back. It has taken him a while to get over it but he is getting close to being 100% now.”
