Crawley boss John Gregory admits his search for a striker is proving problematic.

Gregory is keen to bring in a goalscorer on loan to ease the pressure on Izale McLeod and give Reds more of a cutting edge.

Crawley have found the net just six times in ten games this season – the lowest number in League One – with summer signings Matt Harrold and Gavin Tomlin yet to register.

Gregory said: “I’ve made enquiries about a couple of Championship players who are not in the first team at their clubs at the moment.

“But other Championship clubs are trying to get them as well so obviously the players are going to choose to stay in the Championship.

“It also pushes the price up. If another Championship club comes in for a player we are after then we are going to get blown out of the water.

“Money is tight but if somebody comes along who we really want then I’m sure I’ll be given the money to do it. The board have been fantastic since I have been here so I don’t think that would be a problem but I’m also aware I’m up to my maximum in regards to the size of the squad now.

“If I bring in another one then one or two might need to go out as there is no point in having them sitting around doing nothing.”
