Crawley’s search for a striker has been put on hold due to the international break.

Reds are monitoring “two or three” forwards from Premier League and Championship clubs but will not be able to tie up a loan deal before tomorrow’s visit of Peterborough United.

Boss John Gregory is keen to land a striker to help increase the firepower of a side which has scored just eight goals in 11 league games so far this season but his targets are involved in their respective country’s under-21 set-ups.

But with top scorer Izale McLeod one booking away from triggering a one-match ban Gregory is hopeful of bringing in a striker on loan ahead of Crawley’s trip to Notts County next weekend.

Gregory said: “There are two or three we are very keen on but it is always a little bit difficult in an international week to pin people down and get answers.

“Some of the people we are quite interested in are on international duty as well so we wouldn’t be able to get them for this weekend anyway.

“We’ll keep looking and hopefully something can be done next week.”

Gregory will have some money in his budget to sign a striker as midfielder Josh Wright is expected to be recalled early from his loan spell by Millwall.

Wright joined on a three-month deal last month but has only started two of the six games since his arrival at the Checkatrade.com Stadium and has not featured at all in the last two matches.

Gregory was due to speak to Rotherham manager Steve Evans yesterday with a view to extending Mat Sadler’s loan deal until Christmas with the left-back due to return to the Millers after the weekend.
