John Gregory is looking forward to carrying on as Crawley Town manager after getting over his Saturday night sulk.

Gregory surprised gathered media following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Crewe by stating he was considering his future as Reds boss.

A disappointing first-half display against bottom-of-the-table Crewe, who were missing a host of first-team regulars, left the 60-year-old hugely frustrated.

But Gregory admits on reflection he was just letting off steam and things are not as bad as he made out.

Crawley go to Yeovil in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday unbeaten in their last three matches and sitting 15th in League One despite having to rebuild the side in the summer following budget cuts at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

Gregory said: “I always question myself, I always look at myself but after last Saturday I felt I needed to look at myself a little bit closer than maybe I had in previous weeks.

“I spoke to my staff, we had a good old chat about various things and we went back to work on Monday morning. I got back with the players, they always put a smile on my face, we got back on the training ground and everything is fine.

“I just felt we had a poor first-half performance but I sat and watched the DVD on Sunday. I fast-forwarded most of the first half but I sat and watched the second half and there were lots of good things in there so it kind of cheered me up.

“I just had a bit of a sulk for a few hours on Saturday night but after that everything was fine and I’m looking forward to the Yeovil game.”

Former Bristol City midfielder Marvin Elliott will be back in contention for the Yeovil game after missing the last two matches with a groin injury.

Elliott played a key role in a recent revival by Crawley and Gregory now realises the club’s situation is reasonably healthy.

He added: “I got everything in perspective over the weekend. There are nine teams below us in the league and they would all swap places with us so things aren’t too bad.”

On-loan left-back Mat Sadler will not be granted permission by parent club Rotherham to play against Yeovil.
