Boss John Gregory questioned his players desire after Crawley bowed out of the FA Cup with a “wAhimper” at Yeovil Town.

Reds fell behind when Jordy Hiwula pounced on a mistake by Joe Walsh to give the Glovers the lead after just seven minutes.

Crawley never really threatened to force their way back into the game as Yeovil were able to book their place in the second round with little difficulty.

Gregory said: “There were not enough player who played with 100% passion from the start to finish. We carried too many passengers and that needs to improve.

“There were too many indifferent performances. We need to wake up very quickly because if we are not careful our season will peter out.

“I am scratching my head after that performance. Yeovil are a nice footballing team and pass the ball quite well but we shouldn’t get beaten by them.

“If you are outplayed and Yeovil created chance after chance then you can understand that you don’t deserve to get anything but we went out with a whimper and that is what is difficult to accept.

“There were too many people coasting through the game and not enough prepared to put their necks on the line.

“We had three or four who couldn’t have given anything more but you need to have all 11 doing that.”

Despite being disappointed with the result Gregory felt there was little between the teams apart from one poor piece of defending when Walsh failed to deal with a hopeful ball into the box to allow Hiwula to round Jamie Ashdown.

He added: “We made one mistake in the game. It was an absolute howler from a player you don’t expect to make that kind of mistake.

“It was a gift, a donation but other than that Jamie has not had a great deal to do. It had 0-0 written all over it but we couldn’t get the goal back.

“It is the end of the FA Cup for us which hurts me very, very badly. You’ll have to ask the players if it hurts them quite as much.”
