John Gregory described Izale McLeod’s actions as stupid after the red card which will rule him out for three games.

Top scorer McLeod was dismissed in stoppage time following a clash with Chesterfield left-back Daniel Jones who was also sent off.

McLeod will now miss the trip to leaders Bristol City a week on Saturday, the next home game against Port Vale and the Boxing Day visit to Leyton Orient.

Asked what he thought of the incident, boss Gregory said: “It was stupid. It is not big, not clever, you have to walk away from those situations and not get involved.

“You gain nothing from it whatsoever and Izale is 100% wrong. You don’t get involved, it was nothing to do with him in the first place.

“I don’t suppose the referee has got much choice.

“I think he could have used common sense, given them a yellow card each, a rap across the knuckles and told them to get on with it and behave themselves.”
