Shaun Miller tuned up for a potential League One return by scoring a ten-minute hat-trick.
The striker led the way as a strong Reds side cruised past County Leaguers Eastbourne United 5-1 in the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup tonight.
Although it was a low-profile occasion at the Checkatrade.com Stadium, the goals will have been welcome as Reds look for options up front during Izale McLeod’s impending three-match ban.
Lanre Oyebanjo gave Reds the lead before Miller, a recent loan signing from Coventry, took over.
He turned in crosses from Lewis Young and Gavin Tomlin, then volleyed home a loose ball, all between the 27th and 37th minutes.
Miller also hit the underside of the bar late in the game.
Bailo Camara replied for United on 80 minutes before Sonny Bradley rounded off the scoring.
Reds had an alarm early on when Brian Jensen made a fine save from Lucas Mann at 0-0.
