Boss John Gregory has signalled his desire to keep Marvin Elliott at Crawley.

Elliott has been on a month-to-month contract since joining Reds as a free agent in September and is due to play the final game of his most recent deal at former club Bristol City today.

The Jamaica international has only made one brief appearance as a substitute in the last seven weeks due to a groin injury but is expected to feature against the League One table-toppers at Ashton Gate.

Gregory said: “Marvin is on a monthly contract which automatically renews if he plays a certain number of games. Unfortunately he has been injured so he has not met the criteria this month but we will still be looking to renew it without a doubt.

“I’ve been very happy with Marvin. He really is a fantastic professional so hopefully he will play a lot more games for us this season as I want to hang on to him as long as possible.

“We might continue with the month-to-month contract or possibly give him something to the end of the season but I am also aware that another club might come in for Marvin and offer him an 18-month contract and then we would have to try to match or better that offer.”

Gregory is also keen to agree a deal to bring back Keith Keane when the transfer window reopens in January, with the midfielder due to play the final match of his loan spell from Preston today.

“Keith has been great,” added Gregory. “He is a great professional and has certainly given us a lift since he came on loan.

“Obviously we have got to have that conversation with Preston. We can’t do anything until January so we’ve got a two-week window in which to decide what the next step is going to be.

“But Preston hold all the aces. They might decide they want to keep him, they might pay up his contract or they might say he can go out on loan for the rest of the season so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
