Crawley boss Dean Saunders is confident of signing a goalkeeper in time to face Rochdale tomorrow.

Saunders is desperate to bring in cover for Brian Jensen, who dislocated his thumb last weekend, ahead of the trip to Spotland.

Owain Fon Williams and Stephen Bywater are both potential targets but Reds must complete any deal by 12pm today if they are to be eligible to play against Rochdale.

Bywater is a free agent after having his contract terminated at Millwall this week but is understood to be close to joining Doncaster while Fon Williams is currently first choice at Tranmere.

Brazilian Evandro Rachoni de Lima – who made his debut against Whitehawk on Tuesday – is also expected to sign but will only be considered for a place on the bench.

Saunders said: “We’ve got some options so it is just making sure we get the best keeper we can for the money we have got.

“We’ve got a list of 15 (potential targets) but it is whether we can afford them and whether they are prepared to come to us.

“Some don’t fancy coming down to Crawley and others are earning more than we can pay so I’m asking favours off people.”

Crawley did complete the signing of Anthony Wordsworth yesterday with the midfielder set to make his full debut at Rochdale after joining on a three-month loan from Ipswich Town.

Wordsworth, 26, scored 35 goals in 177 league games for his previous club Colchester and Saunders believes he will increase Crawley’s firepower.

Saunders added: “He has a great left foot and can play anywhere across the midfield but most importantly he is a goalscorer.

“I think he will be a good signing for us but I still need to bring in probably three or four more before the end of the transfer window because the squad is so short of bodies.”
