Crawley boss Dean Saunders will wait for the loan window after failing to strengthen his squad on deadline day.

Saunders had been keen to bring in a striker with Reds linked with a move for former Cardiff and Newcastle forward Michael Chopra. But nothing materialised before the 11pm deadline leaving Saunders with only Izale McLeod, Gavin Tomlin, Matt Harrold and Dean Morgan to choose from for the vital trip to fellow strugglers Yeovil on Saturday.

The loan window opens next Tuesday but Crawley already have the maximum five temporary signings permitted in a matchday squad.

Saunders – who had already signed seven players during January – will console himself with the fact he did not lose skipper Joe Walsh before the window shut.

The former Wales Under-21 centre-back will be out of contract at the end of the season and turned down a new two-year deal last month, sparking speculation the club may decide to cash-in on him rather than lose him for a relatively small compensation fee in the summer.
