Crawley will be facing a team who have just sacked their manager for the second time in a week on Saturday.

Barnsley have axed former Albion midfielder Danny Wilson and assistant Chris Hutchings after taking just 13 points from their last 13 league games.

That form has seen the Tykes slide to 17th in League One ahead of their visit to the Checkatrade.com Stadium despite having the fifth highest wage bill in the division.

Head of academy coaching, Mark Burton, will take charge on a caretaker-basis alongside senior development coach, Paul Heckingbottom, for the trip to West Sussex.

The news is not ideal for Crawley who lost their crucial relegation clash at Yeovil last weekend three days after the Glovers had sacked manager Gary Johnson.

A statement from Barnsley said: “The success Danny brought during his initial period with the club is unrivalled and the club will be forever grateful for his achievements.

“However, recent performances and results have been concerning, considering the club currently boasts the fifth highest wage bill in League One in addition to a fourth highest equity donation by our owner.

“Meanwhile, our current League position of 17th is in stark contrast to an average home gate of sixth-best in the division. Whilst the club acknowledges there has been a large turnover of players, the league position is still unacceptable considering all of the above.

“Barnsley Football Club asks all supporters to please get behind Mark Burton and Paul Heckingbottom on Saturday as we seek three valuable points to propel the side up the league table.”
