CRAWLEY are keen to keep Richard Wood at the club.

The Rotherham defender’s initial one-month loan ended with Saturday’s 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Leyton Orient.

Wood’s seven-game spell with the Reds has included four wins, a draw and two goals.

He was a key figure as Crawley kept their first clean sheet in 15 matches on Saturday.

Now Saunders would like to extend Wood’s loan and plans talks with Rotherham’s former Crawley boss Steve Evans this week.

Saunders said: “He wants to stay and I want him to stay.

“He has done really well for us. He is a good character and good to have around the club.”

Saunders was delighted to beat Orient and make it three wins on the trot to move out of the relegation zone.

He added: “It was against a really good team. I don’t think they will be in the bottom four at the end of the season. It was a big win for us and also caused them a bit of damage.

“Nine points in a week – the players have done magnificently.”
