Last season’s top scorer Izale McLeod warmed up for the new campaign with a double as Crawley won 4-0 in a friendly at Burgess Hill.
Trialist Roarie Deacon and former Albion striker Shamir Fenelon were also on target.
Former Seagulls forward George Barker, released by Swindon at the end of last season, was among ten trialists on show for Reds.
One of the hopefuls, Deacon, formerly with Stevenage, needed just 20 seconds to find the net.
Michael Morrish made a fine save to deny McLeod his hat-trick but Hillians will have been pleased with a tough work out and an attendance of 863.
