CRAWLEY Town last night completed the signings of two players but manager Mark Yates refused to comment on the future of Izale McLeod.

Last season’s top scorer has been linked with a move away from the club, with Barnsley and Coventry both believed to be interested.

He was not included in the squad for last night’s 1-0 win at home to Championship side Reading when Lee Barnard and Roarie Deacon both featured after signing one-year deals.

Former Southend striker Barnard and ex-Arsenal youngster Deacon, who was released by Stevenage at the end of last season, have both impressed in pre-season.

Yates said: “They signed minutes before the game. I’m delighted. I think they are two really good additions to what we have got. They will get better and better as we progress.

“They are both good players and I’m trying to get good players to the club. It has been tough but hopefully things are starting to come together.

“Lee Barnard has some real quality, a real team player. Roarie can play in a few positions and some of the touches he produces shows what an asset he will be.”

As for McLeod, Yates added: “I don’t want to comment. I will talk after Wednesday. He is in the squad for Nuneaton so he will be involved in that one.”

Yates cast his eye last night over one-time Aston Villa right-back Durrell Berry, who was released following Cheltenham’s relegation from the Football League in May, and Belgian left-back Bryan Van Den Bogaert, a former Antwerp player.

The victory delighted him. The Reds boss said: “Tonight I set the boys a target of keeping a clean sheet and can we win the game? I wanted us to be really resilient, tough to break down, organised, with a better shape which we have been working on and have chances.

“They had a couple of chances at the end on the break but I felt we had some great chances during the game.

“It was a really pleasing night but we don’t really anything into results. It is about the performance. I’m delighted with the workrate and the performance the players put in.”
