Crawley Town have reiterated their intention not to sell star striker Izale McLeod on the cheap.

Reds have rejected bids from two separate clubs for McLeod who has made it clear he wants to leave halfway through the two-year deal he signed last summer.

The 30-year-old pulled out of Saturday’s friendly at Whitehawk at the last minute claiming he was ill to the obvious displeasure of Reds boss Mark Yates.

But despite losing patience with the former MK Dons striker, who scored 21 goals last season, chief executive Michael Dunford insists Crawley will not be forced into dropping their valuation of their prized asset.

Notts County chairman Ray Trew claimed a bid of £100,000 was knocked back on Sunday but The Argus understands the size of the final fee depended on the Magpies winning promotion from League Two.

A lower bid from a League One club was also rejected earlier in the summer while a third club are believed to be poised to enter the race for McLeod’s signature in the next few days.

Dunford said: “We have had a couple of firm enquiries but we are not going to give Izale McLeod an easy route out until somebody matches our valuation of him.

“Both offers have fallen well short of what we think a player who scored 21 goals last season and still has 12 months left on his contract is worth so unless that changes he won’t be going anywhere.

“He is a proven goalscorer and was one of the top goalscorers in League One last season in a team which was relegated so our valuation reflects that. Nobody has come near that valuation yet but there are still three weeks until the transfer window closes.

“We accept Izale wants to go and play for a club at a higher level than Crawley but it remains to be seen whether that is possible. The manager (Yates) is completely on board with our stance.”
