Crawley Town let a half-time lead slip as they went down 2-1 to AFC Wimbledon.

Gwion Edwards had headed Reds in front 11 minutes before the interval with his second goal of the season in League Two.

Wimbledon took control of the game in the second half with Ade Akinfenwa heading them level six minutes after the break.

Crawley goalkeeper Freddie Woodman made two fine saves to keep the scores level but Andy Barcham won it for Dons with 13 minutes to go.

The first half was a cagey affair with little in the way of goalmouth action before Edwards headed Reds in front 11 minutes before the break.

Lyle Taylor shot weakly across goal after a fine run by Andy Barcham while at the other end Roarie Deacon’s well-struck effort was straight at James Shea.

Luke Rooney had been wayward with his shooting but produced a peach of a cross to set Edwards up for the opening goal.

The former Swindon midfielder whipped the ball over from the left and Edwards timed his run perfectly to outjump his man and glance the ball past Shea at the far post.

It could have been 2-0 three minutes later when Deacon laid the ball invitingly into the path of Jimmy Smith on the edge of the area but the Reds midfielder shot over the bar.

The visitors brought on former Reds midfielder Dannie Bulman and switched from 3-4-3 to 4-4-2 at half-time and the move brought instant dividends.

The dangerous Barcham got past Liam Donnelly far too easily to pick out Akinfenwa at the far post to head home.

Wimbledon were well on top now and Barcham forced Woodman into a flying save before the on-loan Newcastle keeper got down brilliantly to keep out a header from Akinfenwa from point blank range.

Wimbledon got the second goal their play deserved with 13 minutes to go.

Substitute Lee Barnard gave the ball away cheaply inside the opposition’s and the visitors broke quickly. Jake Reeves spead the ball out to George Francomb on the right whose shot looped over Woodman courtesy of a deflection for Barcham to nod in.

Reds were unable to respond with their only real chance in the second half being a shot from Edwards after a counter attack which went harmlessly wide.
