Crawley Town have completed their second signing in the space of a few hours by bringing in Sussex-born striker Rhys Murphy on a three-month loan from Oldham Athletic.
Confirmation of Murphy’s arrival follows the signing of former Watford midfielder Ross Jenkins on a short-term contract.
Both will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s home game against Yeovil Town as Reds bid to bounce back from their 4-0 defeat at Mansfield last weekend.
Yates moved to bring in former Arsenal trainee Murphy – who was born in Shoreham – to help improve Crawley’s goal threat having failed to score in three of their last four games.
The 24-year-old was on target for Oldham last weekend and scored 13 times in the 2013/14 season for Dagenham and Redbridge.
Yates said: “I know all about Rhys, he can definitely score goals at this level which is an area where we need to improve.
“Rhys is 6ft 1in and not only is he good in the air he is also an excellent footballer with good movement and a physicality to his game which you need in League Two.”
