Crawley Town have signed goalkeeper Daryll Flahavan on a short-term contract.

Flahavan – a free agent following his release by Bournemouth at the end of last season - is set to make his Reds debut against Luton Town tomorrow after agreeing a deal until January 16.

Boss Mark Yates moved to sign the 36-year-old after Freddie Woodman was recalled early from his season-long loan by Newcastle United on Sunday.

Yates had hinted he wanted to bring in a experienced stopper to compliment youngster Callum Preston who made his league debut for Crawley in the 3-2 victory over Leyton Orient last weekend.

Flahavan has made 460 appearances during a career which started at Southampton in 1996 and has taken him to Southend, Crystal Palace, Leeds, Oldham, Portsmouth and Bournemouth.

Yates said: “We wanted a keeper with lots of experience and Daryll certainly fits the bill.”

Flahavan has not played a first team game since September 2014 but insists he will be ready if selected to face the Hatters tomorrow.

He said: “I haven’t had a club since I left Bournemouth. Portsmouth allowed me to train there which kept me in shape and I’m looking forward to this new challenge.

“I’m looking forward to competing with Callum (Preston) for the goalkeeper’s jersey and helping us climb the table. From what I’ve seen this week, the quality is certainly there for us to do that and I am ready to go if called upon on Saturday."
