Crawley boss Mark Yates believes there is "no chance" of loan star Rhys Murphy returning to the club.

Reds are short of personnel as they prepare to face Cambridge on Saturday.

Murphy scored nine goals in 15 starts during a fruitful period at the Checkatrade Stadium.

He has since netted in each of his two games back at parent club Oldham Athletic.

Yates told The Argus today: "We knew when we took Rhys Murphy he was a good player.

"He probably hadn’t had the opportunities he would have liked at Oldham previously.

"He came here and had a few indifferent games but he was lively for us, he bought into what we were trying to do and he was a goal threat.

"We have certainly kick-started his season for him and he has ours as well.

"That’s the thing with loans. They are not your players and sometimes you are not the ones who totally benefit from it.

"He has gone back there, scored two in two.

"Do I see Rhys Murphy coming back here ? No chance.

"I think Rhys has got ambitions to be a League One player and above.

"We have spoken to Oldham, we are speaking to Oldham. But I’m not sure there is a deal to be done at the moment."

Yates is working hard to increase his squad by Saturday and has been boosted by news that defender Josh Yorwerth is fit to face Cambridge despite going off injured at Portsmouth last Saturday.
