Lewis Young aims to heap further misery on an old pal today.

Recently appointed Yeovil Town boss Darren Way was distraught after the Glovers lost in a penalty shoot-out against Carlisle to miss out on a lucrative FA Cup tie with Everton.

Way must now concentrate on trying to rescue Yeovil from dropping out of the Football League altogether having tumbled down the divisions since Young helped the Huish Park outfit win promotion to the Championship in 2013.

Young made 17 appearances for the Glovers as they triumphed in the play-off final at Wembley and worked closely with Way who was part of the coaching set-up at the club during his time in Somerset.

The 26-year-old hopes Way can guide Yeovil to safety but is determined to ensure Crawley don’t give them a helping hand today.

Young said: “We had really successful season when I was at Yeovil. It was similar to here in that we didn’t have a massive squad but all the players bought into what we were trying to achieve.

“It is a shame they aren’t doing so well at the moment. The club was a massive part of my life. My son was born down there so it is a place I hold very close to my heart.

“I still keep my eye out for their results and you can see they have had an upturn in results and performances since Daz (Way) came in as manager. I used to work with Daz a lot because he was a midfield based (coach) and he will definitely have them playing committed football as that is how he was as a player.

“Talking to Wardy (Yeovil defender Darren Ward, who was at Crawley last season) they have definitely turned a corner. They have got experience of being in relegation battles for last two years so hopefully that will hold them in good stead and fingers crossed they keep picking up results – just not today!”

Young had started just 36 games in the Football League before he joined Crawley following his departure from Bury in July 2014.

The former Watford trainee has comfortably surpassed that tally – today’s game will be his 53rd league start for Reds – in 19 months at the Checkatrade.com Stadium and together with Sonny Bradley he is the only ever-present under Mark Yates this season.

Young said: “I have really enjoyed this season. Every players sets themselves goals to play so many games and the management have put a lot of trust in me as a player this year as they did last year.

“As long as keep repaying them then guessing I will be out there. Playing regularly has definitely helped me improve as a player but I know I still need to continue learning and improving every week.”

Reds have lost there last four games away games and have picked up just four points in their previous eight matches outside Sussex.

Although Yeovil are only a point off the foot of League Two their recent home form has been encouraging under Way with two wins and three draws (inside 90 minutes) in their last five games at Huish Park.

Yates said: “I went to Yeovil’s game against Carlisle on Tuesday and they didn’t look like a side towards the bottom of the league. Carlisle are one of best teams we have played this season and they made them look very ordinary for an hour.

“They haven’t lost too many of late, particularly at home, and the new manager has found a tune out of them. I sat next to Darren Ward and he said the new man (Way) had come in and put a demand on the players and you can see the improvement so we have got to deal with that.

“But they are down the bottom for a reason so it is important we go there with a real determination to get something out of the game. Our away form hasn’t been great recently but today’s game is a chance for us to put that right.”

Reds will be without injured trio Joe McNerney, Lanre Oyebanjo and Jimmy Smith while Yeovil are missing the suspended Alex Lacey following his red card against Carlisle and fellow centre-back Ward remains sidelined with a knee problem.
