Boss Mark Yates admitted Crawley Town "got what they deserved" as they slipped to a 1-0 home defeat against Mansfield Town.
Reds were kept in the game by goalkeeper Callum Preston but were left empty-handed after Chris Beardsley headed the winner on the hour mark.
Mansfield were reduced to ten-men in the 90th minute when Matt Green saw red but Crawley were unable to find an equaliser in stoppage time.
Yates said: "There was nothing really in the game apart from them hitting us on the break a couple of times.
"They had a couple of chances in the first half and Callum made a couple of good saves but otherwise it was a tight game.
"We got done by a set-piece. We were a little bit sluggish and you can see the lads are low on confidence but we are just making mistakes at the moment that are costing us."
