Crawley Town have signed striker James Collins on a three-year deal from Shrewsbury Town.

The 25-year-old had the remaining year of his contract at Shrewsbury cancelled earlier today to pave the way for the move.

Collins becomes the latest addition to Crawley's squad this summer as head coach Dermot Drummy attempts to rebuild following a disappointing campaign in League Two last year.

Drummy said: "We're absolutely thrilled we've been able to bring James to the football club.

"He wants a new challenge and he comes with a very good goalscoring record in League Two. We look forward to working with him, making him a better player and to him being part of what we're trying to achieve long-term here at the club."

Collins began his career at Aston Villa and has also had spells at Swindon, Hibernian, Darlington and Burton Albion, scoring 76 goals in 287 appearances in total.

He finished last season on loan at Northampton Town who he helped win the League Two title, the third time he has won promotion from the fourth tier having achieved it twice with Shrewsbury.
