Crawley Town have signed Kenya international defender Josh Lelan.

Lelan was a free agent after leaving Northampton after helping them win promotion from Laague Two last season and has agreed a deal until the end of next season.

The 22-year-old began his career at Derby County but never made a first team appearance for the Rams. He had loan spells at Swindon Town and Gateshead while with Derby before joining Northampton at the start of last season.

Lelan - who made his debut for Kenya in a friendly against Uganda in August – has had trials with Gillingham, Plymouth and Leyton Orient since leaving the Cobblers and has also featured for Derby under-23s on a non-contract basis. The centre-back, who can also operate at right-back, goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's League Two game at Notts County.

Reds boss Dermot Drummy said: "We really rate Josh. He’s athletic, has a great work ethic and will give us another option defensively as he can play right back and in central defence.

“Josh is really keen to take this opportunity. A lot of clubs have looked at him this season but he’s here now and I sense his determination to impress and hopefully get his career going forward with us.”
