Sussex bowler Chris Jordan has been awarded a central contract by England for the first time.

The 25-year-old has featured 26 times for his country since making his debut 12 months ago and is promoted from an incremental contract.

Jordan is one of six players to have been given a central contract for the first time along with Moeen Ali, Gary Ballance, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes.

However, Sussex team-mate Matt Prior has lost his England central contract which he has held since 2009.

Prior stepped down from the England team midway through the summer due to a persistent Achilles injury which required surgery last week.

The Sussex wicketkeeper is one of five players to lose their central contracts along with Graeme Swann, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott and Tim Bresnan.

Meanwhile, James Tredwell – who had been on loan with Sussex from Kent this season – has kept his incremental contract.

National selector James Whitaker said: “The awarding of contracts enables the selectors and team management to plan for the next 12 months of international cricket.

“We have been hugely encouraged by the rapid development of a host of younger players in the last year and this is reflected in a total of six players being awarded 12-month central contracts for the first time.”

Centrally contracts: Mooen Ali, Jimmy Anderson, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Alastair Cook, Steve Finn, Chris Jordan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes.

Incremental contracts: Ravi Bopara, Alex Hales, Eoin Morgan, Liam Plunkett, James Tredwell.
