Ed Joyce has paid tribute to former Sussex batsman Murray Goodwin, who retired from first class cricket today.
Goodwin had been playing for Glamorgan but is best remembered at Hove for his innings of 335 not out against Leicestershire which crowned their first ever Championship-winning season in 2003.
He hit the boundary which secured the title and went on to set a record individual score for the county which he himself broke at Taunton six years later with 344 not out.
Goodwin also played the matchwinning innings against Nottinghamshire to secure the NatWest Pro40 title in 2008.
Sussex skipper Joyce said: “Muzz is obviously a legend of this club and is probably the best batsman I have seen along with (Mark) Ramprakash.
"He scored so many match-winning hundreds in big games for Sussex and everybody at the club wishes him well for the future.”
