Ajmal Shahzad has told Sussex supporters to expect some fun after joining their seam attack.

The former England international has signed a three-year deal at Hove.

He joins pace man Tymal Mills, who signed last week, in an attack which also features Steve Magoffin and, when available, Chris Jordan.

Shahzad told The Argus: “I’m told the wicket will be quick.

“I’m guessing that will see me and Tymal as quick, attacking bowlers on a quick wicket. That could be fun!

“Every time I’ve played at Hove I’ve got some runs or wickets – or both.

“With Steve Magoffin as well, and CJ when he is not with England, the attack down there looks good.”

Shahzad will also have responsibility to pep up the lower batting order.

He spent several days in Sussex and discussed his role in detail with Mark Robinson.

The Sussex coach is a long-time admirer of the 29-year-old who played one Test for England.

Robinson said: “We’re delighted that Ajmal is joining us. He is a cricketer of great ability and who hasn’t yet fulfilled all of his potential.

“He can bowl with a yard of pace and has the potential to be a genuine bowling all-rounder.

“We hope he can have a similar impact that Chris Jordan had, and fulfil the same role helping balance the team.”
