Luke Wells has ended the uncertainty over his future by agreeing a new two-year deal at Sussex.

The opener had stalled on signing a new contract, raising fears he may look to leave Hove.

But the 23-year-old from Eastbourne has reiterated his commitment to Sussex by penning a deal which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2016 season.

Wells said: "I had no interest in leaving Sussex. In an ideal world I would spend my whole career with Sussex.

"I have come up through the age groups and I love the club to bits.

"Conversations were had (about a possible move away) and it was put to the back burner very quickly."

Wells has been a regular in Sussex's four-day side four the last four years but has been frustrated at his inability to push for England honours and a lack of limited-overs cricket.

The left-hander is confident he can resolve both those issues following discussions with coach Mark Robinson and assistant Mark Davis.

Robinson is delighted to have secured the services of Wells following the arrival of seam duo Tymal Mills and Ajmal Shahzad in the last few weeks.

Robinson said: "It is great news. It was always going in that direction but it was a case of talking and making sure everybody was clear what they wanted.

"Luke came through our system and we have got a lot of faith in him. We feel he has got his best years in front of him so I'm delighted he is staying with us."
