Luke Wright has signed a three-year contract extension which will keep him at Sussex until the end of the 2018 season.

Wright’s current deal was due to run out at the end of next season but Sussex have moved quickly to tie the England international down for the long-term future.

The 29-year-old will celebrate his benefit year next season having joined the club from Leicestershire in 2004.

Wright said: “I'm delighted to have signed for the next four years at Sussex. I absolutely love this club.

“I was really proud of my performance last year but it is only really satisfying when that contributes to winning trophies. I truly believe we will over the next four years.”

Wright’s deal is another boost for Sussex having signing Tymal Mills and Ajmal Shahzad in the last month and also convincing opener Luke Wells to sign a two-year contract.

Coach Mark Robinson said: “Luke has been in outstanding form for a period of time now. He has long been seen as one of the leading one-day and T20 players in the world but he has really come into his own in red-ball cricket in recent times as he matures into a more complete player.

“So for him to commit himself for the next four years is great news for all concerned as we look forward to next season.”
