Luke Wright reckons Sussex are happy with their first day’s work in the Championship season.
Wright made 96 and Ben Brown remained undefeated on 85 as the county reached 300-6 against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.
They had earlier been 22-3 and 128-5 after opting to bat first.
Wright, who was caught at second slip looking to drive, said: “If I had been offered 96 when I walked out to bat I’d have snapped your hands off for it.
“I was playing that sort of way, trying to take it to the bowlers.
“I just nicked one and that’s the game.
“But from the position we were in, we would definitely have taken that today.”
Wright was positive in his approach. He admitted: “I felt like I didn’t want to just hang around.
“The ball was nipping about a little bit and they were bowling well.
“I tried to put it back on the bowler and luckily got a few loose balls to get me off and running.
