World Cup winner George Bailey has set his sights on bringing one-day success back to Hove after signing for Sussex.

The capture of Australia’s Twenty20 captain represents another major coup for Sussex following their successful pursuit of Mahela Jayawardene.

Bailey will take over as overseas player from Jayawardene for the final seven games of the NatWest T20 Blast and will also be available for the whole of the Royal London One-Day Cup campaign.

Sussex have failed to make it to the knockout stages in either of the limited overs competition for the last two years but Bailey is confident he can help inspire a challenge for silverware.

The 32-year-old, who was part of Australia’s triumphant team at the World Cup last month, said: “I am looking forward to testing myself in one of the toughest domestic cricket environments.

“I have heard excellent things about the set-up at Sussex and we have a really exciting squad that I believe can mount title challenges in all formats in 2015.”

Bailey has played 85 times for Australia in limited overs cricket and has been captain of their Twenty20 side since 2012. He is currently captaining Kings XI Punjab in the IPL and Sussex coach Mark Robinson believes his experience will be a huge bonus for the Sharks.

Robinson said: “The whole club is really excited at the prospect of George joining us. He is obviously a fantastic one-day player and is also a World Cup winner and international captain which will only add to our dressing room.”
