Coach Mark Robinson insists he is fully focussed on achieving success with Sussex after being overlooked for the England job.

Robinson confirmed he has had no contact from the ECB since Peter Moores was sacked two weeks ago while Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie is to have talks with Ajndrew Strauss .

Paul Farbrace has been put in temporary charge for the series against New Zealand, which starts today, but reports suggest Gillespie could take over in time for this summer’s Ashes against his native Australia.

Robinson was encouraged to apply for the position 14 months ago when he was one of the front-runners to replace Andy Flower before missing out to his predecessor at Hove and close friend Moores.

He has since led tour successful England Lions tours while guiding Sussex to a second successive third place finish in the County Championship.

Robinson said: “I haven’t heard anything and I don’t know whether I will. It is not something that is really on my radar and it is not worth getting into speculation about something I can’t control.

“I’ve got a good job at Sussex that I really enjoy so that is what I am focussing all my energy on at the moment. My major concern is trying to get a fit team out on the pitch and continuing to back our exciting young players rather than worrying about something that may or may not happen.”

Robinson’s attention will be focussed on Lord’s this morning as he waits to see whether all-rounder Chris Jordan will be made available to make his first appearance of the season for Sussex tomorrow.

Jordan faces competition for his place from Mark Wood ahead of the first Test against New Zealand today and if he is left out he could be released to bolster Sussex’s injury-ravage seam attack for the clash with Somerset in the NatWest T20 Blast as well as the Championship game against Warwickshire which starts at Hove on Sunday.

“Selfishly I’d love CJ to be available but you also want the best for your players and I think he would be very unlucky to lose his place in the England team,” added Robinson.
