SUSSEX are considering entering the loan market in a bid to improve their faltering Championship fortunes.

Ed Joyce’s men suffered their fourth defeat in the last five games after going down by six wickets to previously winless Hampshire at Hove yesterday.

Sussex won their opening two matches of the campaign but have struggled to cope with an increasingly depleted seam department.

Ajmal Shahzad, Tymal Mills, Lewis Hatchett and Jimmy Anyon are all currently sidelined while Chris Jordan, right, is absent on England duty.

Sussex signed James Tredwell on loan midway through last season and coach Mark Robinson admits a spinner would be top of their wanted list again.

Robinson said: “Everything is a possibility but it is whether you can find a player who is going to improve the team.

“James Tredwell was fantastic for us last season but proven performers like that do not become available that often.”

Sussex take on Essex and Surrey in their next two games in the NatWest T20 Blast before they return to Championship action against Durham on Monday.

Sussex leg-spinner Will Beer finished with match figures of 8-104 on his Minor Counties debut for Oxfordshire against Berkshire at Henley this week. Beer also scored 68 and 23 but could not prevent Oxfordshire slipping to a 40-run defeat.
