Marcus Trescothick held up Sussex’s quest for bonus points to ease their relegation fears as he competed the 58th first class century of his career on the final morning at Hove.
Trescothick reached lunch unbeaten on 126 and shared in a 157 partnership with James Hildreth to guide Somerset to 239-2.
Hildreth (63) also reached his half century as Somerset collected their first batting point to close the gap on Sussex just one.
Sussex’s frustrations were not helped by proceedings at the Ageas Bowl where a double-declaration overnight has given Hampshire the opportunity to push for a win to boost their hopes of survival.
Yorkshire were set a target of 304 for victory but lost three early wickets before recovering to 96-3 at lunch.
