Chris Jordan struck twice but Marcus Trescothick continued to frustrate Sussex’s push for bonus points on the final afternoon at Hove.

Jordan had James Hildreth caught down the leg side for 68 and then dismissed Jim Allenby for a duck four balls later to give Sussex their only breakthroughs of the day in their Championship clash with Somerset.

But Trescothick moved on to 183 not out at tea and out on 112 with Peter Trego (67 not out) for the fifth wicket to guide Somerset to 374-4 at tea.

That secured a fourth batting point for Somerset and lifted them above Sussex in the division one table. Somerset are likely to secure a fifth batting point for reaching 400 while Sussex have 23 overs to try to collect more bowling points.

Meanwhile, Hampshire’s attempts to engineer a result against Yorkshire at the Ageas Bowl appear to be backfiring. Yorkshire recovered from losing three early wickets to reach 186-3 at tea, requiring a further 118 for victory.
