Sussex had to settle for a single bowling point on the final day of their Championship clash with Somerset at Hove.

The players shook hands on a draw at 4.20pm with Somerset 438-4 declare in reply to Sussex’s first innings total of 409.

Marcus Trescothick finished unbeaten on 210 – the sixth double century of his career – while Peter Trego brought up his century before Somerset declared.

Chris Jordan was the only Sussex bowler to enjoy any success on the final day. He removed James Hildreth and Jim Allenby in the space of four balls to secure a solitary bowling point.

Sussex took 11 points in total from the game while Somerset claimed 13 to climb two points ahead of them in the division one table ahead of the final round of matches next week.

What Sussex need to avoid relegation at Headingley next week will become clearer once the game between Hampshire and Yorkshire at the Ageas Bowl finishes.

If Hampshire lose then Sussex would go into the final match with a 16 point advantage over their neighbours.
