SKIPPER Ed Joyce has targeted a win as Sussex go into the final day of the season facing an uphill battle to avoid relegation.
Joyce’s men will need to produce one of their best batting displays in recent years to avoid defeat against champions Yorkshire at Headingley.
Yorkshire already boast a substantial lead of 301 and have one more wicket in hand to stretch that further unless skipper Andrew Gale decides to declare overnight.
But Joyce is remaining positive and said: “We shall and try and win the game. That’s the main thing.”
If Sussex are unable to stave off defeat at Leeds it would leave the door open for Hampshire to complete a great escape by triumphing at Trent Bridge.
Hampshire looked down and out when Nottinghamshire reached 151-3 in their second innings yesterday but Notts lost their last seven wickets for 34 before Hampshire closed on 89-0, needing a further 111 runs for victory.
