Mark Davis has told his Sussex boss the new signings he wants to bring success back to Hove.

Davis met with chief executive Zak Toumazi first thing yesterday after being appointed Mark Robinson’s successor in charge of senior cricket affairs.

He is confident Toumazi is on his wavelength as Sussex bid to regain their top-flight Championship place while also being a force in one-day cricket.

Toumazi told The Argus: “It didn’t take him long to come knocking on my door and I would expect nothing else. It is tough to sign really good players when you are competing with Category A grounds who are throwing a lot of money at it.

“But I think we will be able to strengthen the side in a way that allows us to compete in all forms. An overseas player has got to be an absolute consideration.”

Davis has targeted a hard-hitting batman as a priority and said: “We spoke a little about various players but more the type of players we would like to bring in.”

Toumazi confirmed Sussex are likely to add a batting coach to their off-field set-up.
