Skipper Luke Wright admits he would welcome a return to Hove for former captain Chris Adams.

Sussex are keen to appoint a batting coach along with a director of cricket following a restructuring of their coaching set-up and the departure of head coach Mark Robinson.

Adams is keen to get back into county cricket after being sacked by Surrey in 2013 and has publicly spoken of his desire to join the coaching staff at Sussex.

The 45-year-old led Sussex to three County Championship titles – including the 2003 triumph when the side included new head coach Mark Davis – together with the Friends Provident Trophy and the Pro40 League during his 11 years as skipper.

Wright, who played under Adams for five seasons, hopes that Sussex bring in a batting coach as soon as possible and believes Adams would be a good fit.

He said: “The club has got to see who is out there but I’m sure Grizz (Adams) would offer a hell of a lot.

“There are not many players who were around during his captaincy left but from a fans point of view he would be a popular choice.

“He’s done well in different jobs (with Sri Lanka and the Netherlands) and sometimes it is a good thing to go away and then come back. If he was interested in the role then I am sure he would be a strong candidate.

“Hopefully it will be sorted out pretty quickly as this is the time of year when you want someone there to help you work on your technique.”
