Chris Nash wants to finish his career at Hove after committing his future to Sussex.

The 32-year-old has agreed a contract extension until the end of the 2018 season despite the disappointment of missing out on the captaincy to Luke Wright.

Nash - whose previous deal was due to expire at the end of this summer –had served as Joyce's vice-captain and also captained the Twenty20 side in 2013 but was overlooked following Ed Joyce's decision to step down at the end of last season.

The Cuckfield-born batsman also lost the vice-captaincy to Ben Brown but insists he is happy to concentrate on regaining his best form to help Sussex end their six-year wait for silverware.

Nash, who has spent the last five weeks at the Gary Kirsten Academy in South Africa, said: “It is nice to know that I’m going to be here at least until I’m 35. This is my home club, I’ve played here since the age of seven and to commit now is a great thing for me.

“It’s an exciting time with Luke taking over as captain. I’m looking forward to playing under him and hopefully over the next three years I can really hit my best form.

“My aim is to score heavily in all forms and to win trophies. I still dream of playing for my country, and this, alongside winning trophies for Sussex, is what drives me to keep improving.”

Nash made his first class debut in 2002 and has gone on to play 150 first-class matches for the club, scoring over 9,000 runs. He is also closing in on List A 3,000 runs for Sussex and 2,500 runs in Twenty20 cricket.

Head coach Mark Davis said: "Chris is a Sussex boy through and through so it is great he has committed his future to the club. He is a top batter in all formats and if he plays well it usually puts us in a good place as he scores his runs so quickly.

"He was obviously disappointed not to get a leadership role but he has taken it in his stride. He is good friends with Luke so although he hasn't got a title I know he is keen to support him by being a leader in the dressing room."
