Chris Nash continued his good form with the bat to put Sussex in a strong position at tea on day three of their County Championship match with Essex at Hove.
Nash – who remodelled his technique under the guidance of Gary Kirsten during the winter - followed his century in the first innings with an unbeaten 71 to help guide Sussex to 170-3, a lead of 210.
The opener put on 97 for the second wicket with Matt Machan who fell just short of his half century when he was strangled down the leg side by Graham Napier for 47.
Ross Taylor joined Nash to add a further 45 runs in good time before the New Zealand batsman edged Jamie Porter to second slip having made 22.
Earlier, Ed Joyce fell for ten when he misjudged a ball from Napier which clipped his off stump.
