Tymal Mills has been tipped to become an international star by one of the fastest bowlers on the planet.

Sussex paceman Mills made an impressive debut for England in their Twenty20 victory over Sri Lanka at the Ageas Bowl on Tuesday when he opened the bowling along with county team-mate Chris Jordan.

The 23-year-old’s performance caught the eye of former Australia bowler Shaun Tait who unleashed a 100.1mph delivery in an ODI against England in 2010.

Tait and Mills will go head-to-head tonight when Sussex take on Glamorgan in the NatWest T20 Blast and the Australian said: “’I played with Tymal at Essex, so I know him well. He was quick back then, and I think he’s a little bit quicker now.

‘’He’s big and strong and he’s going to be a highlight of the Twenty20 scene.’’ Mills is currently limited to playing in the shortest format due to a congenital back problem and Tait – who quit first class cricket at the age of 25 due to injuries – has urged him to focus solely on Twenty20 cricket.

Tait added: “If it’s going to keep him on the park, he may as well. If he went on playing four-day cricket and kept being injured, he’d get his critics there anyway, so I think he’s made a decent decision to get his body stronger.

“I think he’s going to be a big draw card in Twenty20 for years to come. Twenty20 has kept me on the park, that’s for sure. It’s easier to stay injury-free.’’
