SUSSEX skipper Luke Wright has urged the critics to get off Mohammad Amir’s back.

Amir will have a watching brief for Pakistan in their tour match at Hove today six years after being involved in the spot-fixing scandal during the Test series against England.

The 24-year-old seamer was banned from cricket for five years for bowling no-balls to order but was cleared to make a return last January.

Amir’s return to England with the Pakistan team has been greeted with mixed feelings but Wright believes he has served his punishment and should be allowed to be get on with his career.

Wright said: “He’s a young man trying to make his way back.

“I know him from playing against him in the winter (in the Pakistan Super League) and he came across as a nice guy whenever I spoke to him.

“Whether the rules should be tougher to put more people off I don’t know.

“There is an argument that if you do something like that you should get a life ban but at the moment the rules are what they are so people need to let him get on with his cricket.”
