Jofra Archer enjoyed a first class debut to remember on an otherwise tough day for Sussex’s bowlers against Pakistan at Hove.

Archer took four wickets but a century from Azhar Ali and 50s for Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq saw the tourists reach 363-5 at the close.

The 21-year-old seamer picked up two wickets in the morning session and returned with the second new ball to claim another two scalps – including that of Azhar for 146.

The former West Indies under-19 international struck in only his second over when Shan Masood edged to Ben Brown behind the stumps for four.

Archer – who plays for Horsham in the Sussex Cricket League - then picked up the scalp of the experienced Mohammad Hafeez for 17 when he trapped him lbw.

Archer was one of two first class debutants in the Sussex team along with batsman Phil Salt while Abadine Sakande was making his county debut.

Sakande should have picked up wicket when Azhar edged low to second slip on 11 but Harry Finch was unable to take the chance.

Azhar was also put down by Ajmal Shahzad off the bowling of Danny Briggs on 57 and took full advantage of those reprieves as he brought up his 27th first class century from 205 balls.

Shahzad made partial amends when he caught Younis at mid-off for 59 to give Briggs a wicket and end a partnership of 125.

Archer picked up his third wicket with the second new ball when Misbah padded up to a straight delivery and was lbw for 68.

He then ended Azhar’s 266 ball innings when the 31-year-old attempted to hook a bouncer and was caught behind by Brown.
