SUSSEX are in talks to secure the future of Jofra Archer after his sensational breakthrough into the first team.
The 21-year-old from Barbados took five wickets on his first class debut against Pakistan last week before following it up with a nerveless display in front of the Sky cameras in Sussex’s crushing one-run defeat to Hampshire in the NatWest T20 Blast on Friday night.
Archer has been playing without a contract after recovering from a long-term back injury and Sussex are aware of the need to move quickly to tie the all-rounder down with other counties monitoring his situation.
Head coach Mark Davis said: “Jofra’s been outstanding and looks a real prospect.
“We’re talking to him at the moment. We want to offer him something and we’re confident we can sort it out.”
