Steve Magoffin completed the fourth ten-wicket haul of his career to keep Sussex’s slim hopes of victory alive against Worcestershire at Hove.

Magoffin followed up his 5-38 in the first innings by taking 5-32 as Sussex bowled Worcestershire out for 194.

That gave them a lead of 271 after Sussex had earlier recovered from 71-7 to make 229 thanks to an unbeaten half century for Chris Jordan.

Sussex’s hopes of chasing down that total suffered a blow as they lost Chris Nash in the final four overs of the day to close on 13-1.

Sussex looked in danger of being forced to follow on when they slumped from 50-4 overnight to 71-7.

They were rescued by a partnership of 97 between Jordan and Jofra Archer who made 46 from 56 balls.

Danny Briggs (22) and Magoffin (13) also chipped in before Jordan was left stranded on 57 not out.

Magoffin removed both openers Daryl Mitchell and Brett D'Oliviera to leave Worcestershire wobbling on 1-2 but Tom Fell made 86 and Ben Cox 56 to build a sizeable lead.

Worcestershire were given a further boost when Nash nibbled at a ball from Joe Leach and was caught behind.
