Chris Jordan has jetted in to help give Sussex’s season lift-off.

Jordan is set to play his first game of the season for the county when they resume their Championship campaign against Durham on Sunday after making an early exit from the Indian Premier League.

The England all-rounder made his only appearance for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the competition as they lost against Kolkata Knight Riders in an eliminator on Wednesday to miss out on a place in today’s semi-final and the chance to reach Sunday’s final.

Jordan flew back from India last night and will be assessed today ahead of the division two clash with Durham at Hove as Sussex bid to bounce back from defeats in their opening two Championship games against Kent and Nottinghamshire.

Overseas star Vernon Philander has also been passed fit to face Durham after recovering from a groin injury picked up on debut against Kent but Sussex - who face South Africa today in a 50-over game - are likely to still be missing seamer Steve Magoffin and batsman Luke Wells.

Head coach Mark Davis said: “CJ hasn’t played much cricket but he has been training hard over in India and is keen to come straight back in. Vernon has trained with us this week and is definitely fit.

“Mags and Wellsy are making good progress but the Durham game might come a bit too soon for them.”
