Luke Wright has been backed to return to his best without the pressure of captaincy.

Sussex head coach Mark Davis believes Wright will benefit from stepping down as skipper.

Chris Nash takes over at home to Worcestershire tomorrow after Wright decided to step down.

In a statement released this morning, Davis said: "I would like to thank Luke for everything he has done for the team in his role as captain.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Luke and establishing a new-look Sussex team that will bring success back to our great club.

“His passion and enthusiasm for the club is second to none and, without the stress and strains of captaincy, I am convinced he will be back to winning games for the club.”

Sussex are training this morning as they plan how to halt a Worcestershire side who have won their first four Championship matches.

Wright took over as captain last year in succession to Ed Joyce having previously led the side in T20 matches.
