Steve Magoffin has been hit by another injury.
The Sussex seamer will undergo a scan today on an Achilles problem which kept him out of yesterday’s play against Worcestershire.
He was making his comeback from a knee injury which had sidelined him for three of the previous four matches this summer.
Sussex have been cautious with Magoffin’s return to action.
They kept him out of recent Championship games against Kent and Durham, preferring that he got overs under his belt with the second team.
Fast bowler Vernon Philander is playing the penultimate game of his brief stint with the county.
They currently have no plans to sign another overseas star when he departs. That could come under review of the damage to Magoffin, 37, is serious.
Sussex have gone into the current game with five recognised seamers and have also seen Stiaan van Zyl make a valuable contribution with the ball. Magoffin made his return at the expense of spinner Danny Briggs for the current fixture.
