SUSSEX have been told they can “turn anyone over” after another thumping win at Hove.

The county shrugged off a change of captain and the loss of strike bowler Steve Magoffin to rout previously unbeaten Worcestershire by an innings and seven runs.

Victory followed an innings success over Durham in their previous home game.

Now Mark Davis has told them they can beat any potential promotion rivals in division two of the Specsavers County Championship.

The Sussex head coach said: “It was probably our best performance of the season in four-day cricket. Worcestershire are one of the best teams in the league.

“We have shown against Durham and against them that, if we get it together with bat and ball, we are a dangerous team. We can turn anyone over. Once again, I thought it was a complete performance from the team.

“Everyone did what we asked of them – which is really encouraging.

“If we play to this standard, we will be a really hard team to beat.”

Sussex still have a lot of ground to make up but have clawed back 11 points on leaders Nottinghamshire, who drew with Derbyshire.

Davis’ men now prepare for a trip to Leicestershire, starting on Friday.

They are likely to again be missing Magoffin, who has an Achilles problem.

Stand-in skipper Chris Nash, who has taken over from Luke Wright, will remain in charge at Grace Road and is eyeing the leading pack.

He said: “We are a couple of wins away from being up there. We had a bit of hard luck in the first couple of games with injuries but we are playing some good cricket.”

Sussex will review their captaincy situation after returning from the East Midlands.

Nash joked: “I’ve got a win so I might get another game as captain.

“It’s kind of Craig Shakespeare at Leicester City at the moment.

“Every game, if I win I get another one!

“But I quite enjoyed that. I’ve got a great group of bowlers and, if you out runs on the board, with an attack like that you’ve got a great chance of winning.”
