Sussex will ease Tymal Mills through the push for a NatWest T20 Blast top-four finish.

But the fast bowler is not the only one on whom Sharks are keeping a wary eye.

Head coach Mark Davis admits his side have some minor injury concerns ahead of tonight’s visit from Middlesex (7pm).

They will assess their options this morning.

Mills, troubled by back and hamstring niggles, did not look in peak shape during the tie with Kent on Sunday.

Sussex need all their big names to be at their best against star-studded T20 line-ups.

Davis admitted Mills will miss further matches in the qualifying group.

He told The Argus: “We have the same 14-man squad for this one but we have got a couple of minor concerns and we will see how they are.

“That’s as well as Tymal, who was struggling a bit with his hamstring on Sunday and had to go off.

“But the good thing was he went back on. That was a positive. We will see how he pulls up.

“We will manage him through the eight games we have left and he will not play all eight.”

Sussex have won just one of their first six matches, a record which includes two rain-offs in games where they felt they were well-placed plus the photo finish against Kent.

Davis said: “The tie was disappointing.

“We should have won the game when we got it down to eight required off six balls.

“But it’s a congested table.

“In the south division everyone beats each other but it is important to put a couple of wins together.”

Davis set his side a goal of four wins from six matches in the Championship and it seemed to focus minds brilliantly as they hit their target.

He has not done something similar in the shortest format.

Davis said: “It’s harder because the games come so thick and fast.

“I don’t know how many wins will be required to reach the quarter-finals.

“It’s a very tough group and a very exciting group as well.”

Davis is happy to see players not involved keeping sharp in second team games.

Luke Wells, in particular, kept himself in a few minds with a double century for the twos this week.

Wells also revealed via social media that he is set to become a dad.

Davis said: “They are playing second-team cricket and they practise with the squad.

“Wellsy has scored a lot of runs and the challenge for all of them is to get themselves in the T20 team.

“Wellsy wasn’t in the 50-overs stuff because he was injured.

“Had he played in those games, he might have had more chance to stake a claim for the T20s.

“But it’s good to see we have strength in depth.”
